Lodhi Garden :
During British Raj, it was landscaped by Lady Willingdon, wife of Governor-General of India, Marquess of Willingdon, and hence named the ‘Lady Willingdon Park’ upon its inauguration on April 9, 1936, and 1947, after Independence, it was given its present name, Lodi Gardens.
As there is little architecture from these two periods remaining in India, Lodi Gardens is an important place of preservation. The tomb of Mohammed Shah is visible from the road and is the earliest structure in the gardens. The architecture is characterized by the octagonal chamber, with stone chhajjas on the roof and guldastas on the corners.
The tomb of Mohammed Shah, the last of the Sayyid dynasty rulers, the earliest of the tombs in the garden, was built in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah as a tribute to Mohammed Shah.
After the 15th century Sayyid and Lodi dynasties, two villages grew around the monuments, but the villagers were relocated in 1936 in order to create the gardens.
Another tomb within the gardens is that of Sikander Lodi, which is similar to Mohammed Shah’s tomb, though without the chhatris, it was built by his son Ibrahim Lodi in 1517, the last Sultan of Delhi from Lodi dynasty, as he was defeated by Babur.
It is a simple rectangular structure on a high platform approached by a flight of steps. The tomb was renovated by the British, and an inscription mentioning Ibrahim Lodi’s defeat at the hands of Babur and the renovation was included in 1866.

Be it a landscape, a street full of people or animals, photographers have the ability to portray these scenes in unique and creative ways. Avanish Dureha from Greater Noida, a former commander in the Indian Navy who has taken up photography as a hobby, shared, “If you ask 10 people with cameras to capture the same place, you will get 10 starkly different photographs.”
One of his images titled ‘Baby’s Day Out’ is on display at the Gurushots New Delhi Exhibition at the Open Palm Court at India Habitat Centre (IHC), Lodhi Road. The photographs at this exhibition, which began on November 26, will be displayed for viewing till 7pm today. A first for Gurushots—an international community of photographers—in India, this exhibition is in collaboration with the Delhi Photography Club. Divided into two themes ‘Powerful Lighting’ and ‘Our Amazing Planet’, 74 global artists are exhibiting their works here.
Capturing the world around
Of the 20,000 photographs submitted for the Gurushots photography challenge, only 74 were selected. When we visited the gallery on Monday afternoon, we saw innovative shots of landscapes, wildlife photographs, street portraits, and collection of varied moments captured by the artists. The exhibition also has a compilation of the 20,000 submissions displayed on an LED screen.
Featuring submissions from countries such as Patagonia, Denmark, United States, as well as India, the photographs on display are also on view virtually on Gurushots’ Meta (earlier Facebook) page. “Post COVID-19, since a lot of work has been shifted to a virtual platform, working with Gurushots has been extremely interesting. We were worried about the people who would visit the exhibition, but now we provide a virtual walk-through of the exhibition twice a day for anyone who is unable to visit,” said Virendra Shekhawat, founder of Delhi Photography Club.
Speaking of his photograph, which is a part of the ‘Our Amazing Planet’ theme and taken in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, Dureha shared, “Elephants are protective, so to get a picture of a baby elephant with its mother, away from the herd walking into the sunset, was something that needed to be captured. Wildlife photography is a challenge; these moments, where the animals are in their natural habitat with their guard down, therefore make it special.”

DPC Announces the fresh set of Heritage Photowalks post the Covid Era . And we are keeping our tradition with Chandni Chowk.During the walk we are going to explore the Narrow Lanes of Chandni Chowk plus the newly renovated spaces of the main road .

2-The walk is on Sunday, 17th Oct 2021 and will start from the Meena Bazar Parking and we will go till the Town Hall. Time : 8.00 am to 10.00 am .
3-May we request you to be on time to start the walk in time?Ways to reach:
4-By car: It is best to park the car at the Meena Bazaar parking or Jama Masjid parking. It being evening time, it will take some time before you get the parking. So coming a little early helps.
6-By metro: Jama Masjid or Chawdi bazaar or Chandni Chowk metro station and a rickshaw ride from there.

7-There is no fee or payment of any sorts for the walk
However, ticket for camera etc., to enter any specific monument will have to be borne by the individual.
8-Any sort of soliciting or promoting any product or service among the photo walkers is a strict NO. These photowalks are to encourage amateurs and beginners to come out and enjoy photography, please help us maintain the spirit.
9-Some people want to help us. There are two ways,
